KUALA LUMPUR 18 March - The Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) would be replaced by Form Three Assessment (PT3) which would be carried out at the school level, said Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Parliament today.
The new assessment method is part of the fine-tuned School-Based Assessment (PBS) which is scheduled to commence on April 1.
"Under PT3, the school would be given the flexibility to administer, assess and award the scores according to the standardised scoring guidelines set by the Examinations Board (LP).
"The moderation and verification would also be conducted by external assessors before reports can be produced," he said.
In addition to that, teachers no longer need to key-in their teaching data online into the central education system.
The assessments, said Muhyiddin, can be carried out offline solely for the reference of the teachers and it is no longer a requirement to enter all data into the central online system.
"A circular would be distributed to all the schools today and if the teachers require some training on the new assessments, short courses can be provided by the ministry.
"We hope with this would lessen the burden of the teachers and help them focus on quality teaching in the classroom," he added.
The PBS was first implemented in 2011 and 2012 in primary and secondary schools respectively in efforts to migrate from the conventional examination-oriented approach to an assessment-based one.
