KUALA LUMPUR: POLICE have arrested 10 people for drug possession in connection with the deaths of concertgoers at the Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA) 2014.
The suspects were nabbed in separate arrests, making a total of 29 having been picked up since the incident at Bukit Jalil Stadium here on Saturday night.
Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohan Singh Tara Singh said 13 of the suspects were Malaysians, while the rest were foreigners from Singapore, Australia and Indonesia.
The suspects have been remanded until tomorrow, reported NST.
On Saturday, six concertgoers died after they overdosed on synthetic drugs. Three are in critical condition. It was reported that the victims collapsed at 1.30am.
One died at the scene, while five died on the way to hospital.
The victims, aged between 21 and 28, were identified as Kamal Zekry Kamal Basha, 22; Victor Wong E Hern, 26; Sabreena Kamaruddin, 21; M. Suresh, 28; Syazana Sohaime, 23; and, Nor Faizza Mohd Wazir, 27.
"The three victims who are in critical condition are recovering," he said, adding that 11 more were being monitored at hospitals.
The victims were admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre and University Malaya Medical Centre.
Mohan said one of them, a Singaporean, was discharged from HKL yesterday. The other victims include nine Singaporeans and one each from Myanmar, Iran and Taiwan.
One victim's nationality had yet to be confirmed.
FMFA was initially scheduled for three days.
However, its organisers called it off on Saturday, following police advice.
Mohan said police took control of the situation, following FMFA's cancellation, and the crowd dispersed at 9pm.
FMFA organisers, through a Facebook posting, said they heeded the authorities' advice to not proceed with the concert in the interest of public safety.
The organisers said they would refund concertgoers.
